Music scheduling

Daily operations

Generate playlists, review and edit logs, manage issues and export to your playout system.

Once your library is set up, these are the day-to-day tasks.

Generating schedules

Go to Music Scheduling > Overview and use the Playlist Generation panel. The same panel is also available from the Schedule section of the Logs sidebar.

Choose a date range

Set a Start Date and Start Hour, and an End Date and End Hour.

Set the options

  • Regenerate Existing Playlists: if ticked, hours that have already been generated are cleared and generated again. If unticked, they're skipped, unless they still have unscheduled positions.
  • Respect Locked Playlists: if ticked, locked hours are left untouched.
  • Dry Run (Preview Only): if ticked, the scheduler runs without saving anything. Useful for testing your rules and settings.

Generate

Click Generate Playlists.

Generation runs in the background. While it runs, Generation Status shows "Generating playlists..." and a job ID. When it's done, open Logs to see the results.

The scheduler uses your default template to decide which clock to use for each hour, and skips hours with no clock assigned.

Reviewing logs

Go to Music Scheduling > Run > Logs. This is the main day-to-day screen for inspecting and editing generated schedules.

  • Date picker: click the date at the top left to jump to any date.
  • Day tabs: a row of seven days centred on the selected date.
  • Hour tabs: 24 buttons (0–23). Hours are highlighted when they have scheduled content, issues or unscheduled positions.

Log table

Each row is one scheduled (or unscheduled) item.

ColumnDescription
Air TimeCalculated broadcast time
TypeBadge showing the kind of item, in its category colour
CategoryThe subcategory the track came from
TitleTrack title (or note text for non-music items)
ArtistArtist name
DurationTrack length. A ~ means an estimate for an unscheduled position
Item IDThe track's ID, or a Fix issue button if the item has a rule violation

If an hour hasn't been generated yet but has a clock assigned, you'll see a preview of the clock with a Schedule Hour button to generate just that hour.

Per-item actions

  • Drag rows to reorder them within the hour.
  • From each row's menu: Move up, Move down or Remove.

Hour-level operations

The bar at the bottom of the log shows:

  • Current Duration: the hour's total length, and how far it is over or under the clock's target runtime.
  • A badge showing the number of unscheduled positions out of the total items in the hour. It's green when there are none.
  • A menu showing which clock is assigned to the hour, with a Revert to Clock option. This resets the hour to its clock's structure, removing its tracks and issues, so you can generate it again.

Managing issues

Go to Music Scheduling > Run > Issues, or open the Issues section of the Logs sidebar.

The issues list shows rule violations for the date and hour you're viewing, with a summary of how many upcoming log entries have issues and how many of those are caused by unbreakable rules. There are two kinds of issue:

  • Unbreakable: a position was left unscheduled because every candidate track broke an unbreakable rule.
  • Breakable: a track was placed even though it breaks a breakable rule.

Each issue card shows the rule, the affected track (or "No audio item scheduled") and the tracks the scheduler tried.

Resolving issues

Click an issue in the list, or click Fix issue on a row in the log.
Review the suggested replacement tracks. Each one shows a tick if it breaks no rules, or a warning icon you can hover over to see which rules it would break.
Click a suggestion to see the rules and play history behind it.
Click Replace to swap it into the log.

Getting schedules to your playout system

If you run RadioDJ and connect it through the Soundwaves Relay, generated hours are sent to RadioDJ as playlists automatically, along with changes you make to them in Logs. The other Relay connectors (mAirList, PlayoutONE and custom databases) bring your library into Soundwaves but don't receive generated schedules.
