Soundwaves Relay

What the Relay is and how it keeps your playout system and Soundwaves in step.

Soundwaves Relay is in early access. Email hello@soundwaveshq.com to get set up.

Soundwaves Relay is a small app you run on one of your own machines to keep your playout system and Soundwaves in step. This guide walks you through linking it to your station, choosing the right connector, pointing it at your media, importing your library, and reading the handful of statuses you'll see along the way.

What the Relay is

The Relay is the bridge between your playout system and Soundwaves. It runs on a computer you control, rather than in the cloud. That's typically the same machine as your playout software, or a server sitting alongside it. It needs local access to your playout database and your audio files.

Depending on the connector you choose, it works in one of two directions:

  • It keeps your playout system up to date with changes you make in Soundwaves, and reports what you played back to us.
  • Or it reads your existing library and brings it into Soundwaves.

Once it's linked, it runs quietly in the background as an appliance. There's nothing to babysit.

Desktop or headless

The Relay comes two ways from one core:

  • Desktop app (Windows, macOS or Linux). Most stations use this. It wraps everything in a simple dashboard showing status, sync progress and live logs.
  • Headless. Larger or more automated setups can run the same Relay on a server, configured from a file.

Both behave identically, so pick whichever suits how you run your station.
